Why Can’t a Person Just Cut Back?

The honest answer is, You Can. Most of our patients really don’t want to quit drinking – they just want to drink less, like a ‘normal person.”

In fact, not only do most alcoholics improve significantly without treatment, but they typically do so without quitting drinking. According to NLAES, from five years following an “alcohol dependence” diagnosis on, a majority of ever-alcohol-dependent people in the US are drinking without manifesting alcohol abuse/dependence. Untreated alcoholics are more likely to be in remission than treated alcoholics at all points since dependence onset because, although they are less likely to abstain, they are far more likely to drink without diagnosed problems.

Stop At Two is the program that will allow you to do that. Drink like a normal person again. What does this mean? In general it means something different for everyone. In practice it means you will change your behavior and drink a lot less alcohol than you currently drink now. Some days, in fact many days, you may not drink at all.

Stop At Two is not a sobriety program. It is not an abstinence program. Stop At Two assumes that you want to continue to enjoy alcohol, but in a more healthy way.

What is Stop At Two – How Does It Work?

Stop At Two uses FDA-approved medications which have been available in the United States for over 20 years. These medications work. Studies have shown better than a 50% success rate in reducing alcohol consumption with medication alone.

However, reduction in alcohol consumption is far more effective if done in a structured program involving therapy. Stop At Two combines the medication used to reduce alcohol consumption with a structured therapy program. This combination leads to a 78% success rate in reducing alcohol consumption.

I have to go to Therapy?

Stop At Two understands that your time is valuable. Many of our clients do not have the time to invest in coming to office visits and therapy appointments as often as they need to be successful. Stop At Two has created a treatment program that takes this into consideration. After the initial, in-person visit with our therapy team, including our medical doctor and one of our therapists, our goal is to be able to continue the treatment program in a way that is convenient to the patient. Our therapy visits are conducted either in person, over the phone, via teleconference, or even at a patient’s office. Our goal is to bring the treatment program to the patient and work within the patient’s schedule to offer the tools for success. Studies have shown that brief interventions do lead to success in this type of program. Stop At Two wants to provide our patients with this ongoing support for a year, and longer if necessary.   Our therapy sessions could be five minutes or could be over an hour. It just depends. We are here for you to walk with you through your journey of gaining control over alcohol.

Stop At Two’s executive treatment program is designed for high-functioning individuals who need extended care in an outpatient setting. Through this program the patient will have an initial intake appointment with both our physician and our psychology team. The physician and the psychologist will then meet to develop an individualized, outpatient year-long treatment program for the patient. At a minimum the program will include monthly individualized meetings with the psychologist, open but limited participation group (non-12 step based) meetings which will be available at least monthly, and quarterly meetings with the physician provider. The cost of the executive treatment program, including all visits and which lasts for an anticipated 12 months, is $12,000, payable at the beginning of treatment.
